News & Events

Dear RSU 5 Families,

Due to the number of snow days we have used this winter, we are making an adjustment to our calendar to help prevent the school year from extending further into late June.

Friday, March 13 will now be a half day of school for students (typical early release day dismissal). Staff will participate in professional learning during the afternoon.

This change allows us to regain flexibility in the calendar and reduces the likelihood of adding additional days to the end of the school year.

Thank you for your flexibility as we navigate a very “Maine” winter. Please contact your school office with any questions.

As many of you may know, the State of Maine has directed all school districts to assume responsibility for identifying and providing a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) to children ages 3–5 with disabilities. This responsibility, previously held by Child Development Services (CDS), must be fully in place no later than July 1, 2028. While that date may seem far off, the change is significant and may ultimately affect how we use our facilities, allocate financial resources, hire and deploy staff, and plan for the long-term configuration of our district.

A webpage has been set up to keep the community informed. The “Early Childhood Planning (CDS)” page can be found under the “Quick Links” tab above.  Information will be added to this page as new information emerges.
