Each year at the FMS 8th grade promotion ceremony, two citizenship awards are presented to selected students. Typically we have presented the State of Maine Secretary of State Citizenship Award and the American Legion Citizenship Medal. Each award requires a student to be nominated by a parent, friend, coach, advisor or classmate, with the nominations presented to a committee at FMS who then selects awardees based upon the award criteria. Each of these awards looks for qualities such as Citizenship, Character, Honor, Patriotism, Leadership, Scholarship, Service and Participation. If you believe you know an 8th grade student deserving of one of these special awards, or would like more information, please submit a one page nomination to Shawn Favreau, favreaus@rsu5.org by May 12th. Our promotion ceremony is scheduled for the evening of June 15th (if there are no more inclement weather days). Look for more information as the date approaches.
