Freeport Middle School provides an excellent education for sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-grade students from Freeport and Pownal. We serve approximately 100 students at each grade level, with teams of six teachers at each grade. This structure allows us to maintain small class sizes, with fewer than 20 students in most classes.
We are committed to addressing the unique academic, physical, social, and emotional needs of students during this important period as they transition from childhood into adolescence. Our staff works collaboratively to create and maintain an orderly, trusting, and caring environment where teaching and learning are engaging and students are encouraged to develop independence, responsibility, and confidence.
Our academic, curricular, and co-curricular programs are student-centered and designed to recognize individual learning styles, interests, and strengths. We strive to provide meaningful opportunities for every student to experience success, discover their passions, and develop a strong sense of belonging within our school community.
Freeport Middle School also provides numerous opportunities for students to extend their learning beyond the traditional classroom. Three times each year, our Fab Friday program allows students to explore activities based on their individual interests. Recent experiences have included gem mining, rocket building, ropes courses, community service, biking, and many other hands-on activities.
Students also have opportunities to participate in experiences with real-world relevance, including trips to Quebec, New York City, and Acadia National Park, as well as Space Camp in Alabama for select sixth-grade students. Our on-site ropes course provides another unique opportunity for students to develop leadership, communication, trust, collaboration, and teamwork skills.
At Freeport Middle School, we believe that middle school should be a time for students to explore who they are, discover what they are capable of, and develop the skills necessary for their next steps. We take pride in creating a school community where students are supported, challenged, and encouraged to grow.
